Ágrafa Society: 라보리아 큐보닉스를 한국 독자들에게 소개하게 되어 기쁩니다. 우선 국가도 활동 영역도 다른 여섯 명의 여성이 어떻게 만났고, 또 어떤 과정을 통해 라보리아 큐보닉스라는 흥미로운 이름을 스스로 지어 제노페미니즘 선언이라는 실험적 프로젝트를 수행하기에 이르렀는지 궁금합니다.
Laboria Cuboniks: 라보리아 큐보닉스는 2014년 여름 피터 볼펜달(Peter Wolfendale)과 레자 네가레스타니(Reza Negarestani)가 베를린 세계문화의 집에서 기획한 합리주의에 관한 컨퍼런스1에서 저희 여섯 명이 만나게 되면서 시작했습니다. 저희 중 그 누구도 전에 알던 사이는 아니었지만, 컨퍼런스가 진행되면서 우리들은 과학, 이성주의, 수학이라는 담론 속에서의 여성의 역할이라는 공통의 논의점을 통해 모이게 되었습니다. 과학, 이성주의, 수학 같은 것들은 대개 페미니스트 글쓰기를 배신하는, 가부장적 사유 양식에 종속된 형식으로 문제시되는 대상입니다. 전통적으로 서구에서 페미니스트 담론은 늘 자연, 또는 다양한 순수 유물론주의 철학들로 연결지어졌습니다. 이성주의나 기술론 또는 과학은 억압적인 것으로 늘 의심의 대상이 되어왔지요.
Ágrafa Society: We are pleased to introduce Laboria Cuboniks to Korean readers. At first, we wonder what would bring you together, six women based in different countries and fields, to perform such a experimental project Xenofeminism Manifesto with very interesting naming Laboria Cuboniks. Could you share your co-storytelling to manifest xenofeminism?
Laboria Cuboniks: Laboria Cuboniks was generated in the summer of 2014 when the six of us came together for a conference on rationalism organised by Peter Wolfendale and Reza Negarestani at the HKW in Berlin.1 None of us knew each other very well at first, but as the conference went on we found ourselves banding together to discuss the role of women in the discourses of science, rationalism and mathematics—a role that has often been viewed problematically in feminist writing as betraying some form of submission to patriarchal modes of thought.
